Destination Punjab to brand, promote MSMEs

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

By Jeeta Bandopadhyay

To unleash the huge business potential in Punjab, especially the MSME sector, the state government is holding a 4-day event in Amritsar. The event is expected to set the momentum for industrial success in Punjab.

Known as ‘Destination Punjab’, the event will be organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the state government during October 7-10, 2011.

The event will exclusively focus on the state MSME sector and help them ramp up their business. Kamna Raj Aggarwalla, chairperson of CII Punjab State said to the media that the event is a great platform for the state-based micro and small business units as they can showcase their products and immensely benefit from visiting delegations and corporate clientele.

The event targets to bring fresh investments into Punjab and eventually help the state MSME sector. Besides, it would help in proper branding, said the CII chairperson.

Help explore possibilities

The event would help the small business units in Punjab explore emerging possibilities and subsequently play a big role in the state’s industrial growth, said Rajat Agarwal, deputy commissioner of Amritsar to the press. About the venue, Mr Agarwal said that the decision to hold the event in Amritsar has been apt as it is soon going to become the gateway of Punjab.

In the event, state-based MSMEs can showcase engineering goods, farm equipment and machinery, auto and machine tools, textile and textile machinery, leather and sports goods, and the like. ‘Destination Punjab’ would also facilitate small business units associated with tourism and hospitality industries.

The event provides a platform for knowledge events and extensive business-to-government (B2G) interactive sessions between representatives from the international trade bodies and the Government of Punjab. The B2G sessions would focus on new business partnerships. The state’s conductive governance and robust infrastructural support can work in favour of the Punjab government to attract fresh investments.

Destination Punjab is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors.
